The Telephone Is Ringing

By DragonAttack

Sometimes I will be sitting at work when my phone rings with the tone that lets me know that the call is coming from the outside world. LCG is the only person with my direct dial number, so when the outside world ring goes off, I am ninety-nine percent sure it is him calling the Bat Phone, and I get all happy.

Me: "NameOfCompany, this is Dragon."

LCG: "Steve Perry is trying to decide whether or not he should shave his moustache! He's looking in the mirror! He's thinking!"

This tells me that LCG is watching VH1 Classic (the main cause of me neglecting my homework, right after wrestling) and that the video for Faithfully is on. If you haven't seen it, it's a typical concert video, but it is from a period when Steve Perry was sporting a moustache.

This phone call has been a staple since the magical time last year when LCG got digital cable, introducing us to the wonderful world of VH1 Classic. Faithfully is in their regular rotation, and we never, ever get tired of that video, or the phone call it causes.

Me: "Hi."

LCG: (fully ensconced in his Steve Perry impersonation) "They say that the road ain't no place to start a family...."

Me: "How are you?"

LCG: "Right down the line it's been you and me..."

Me: (giggling)

LCG: "He's still got the moustache!"

Me: "Of course he does."

LCG: "I'm for-ev-er-yo-ours........faith-ful-ly." (He commences to hum the keyboard part.) "Neal Schon!"

Me: "He hates me."

LCG: "Yes, he does. Oh! He's! got! the! shaving! cream! on! his! face! He's going to go for it! Shot of clean shaven Steve Perry! Footage with the moustache! Back to clean shaven!"

(Who was in charge of continuity anyway? The moustache dilemma is a reoccurring theme, and once the moustache is gone, the tension is over. Don't go back to the moustache footage!)

LCG: "Uh. Well, that's all I called for."

Me: "Okay. Talk to you later."

LCG: "Bye."
