Summer Preview

By DragonAttack

It's June, which means that LCG and I have started asking each other, "Is it winter yet?" We may very well be the only two Minnesotans who hate the summer weather, so we have to stick together. We don't like the heat, or the bugs, or the people who think that it's okay to wear sandals. We spend our time driving around with the air conditioning blasting, drinking Squirt instead of Dr. Pepper and waiting for September to arrive.

The one thing that makes summer bearable for us is the fact that Journey goes out on tour during the summer. Even with the seasonal drawbacks, this is going to be the best summer ever. This month, I am graduating school, which is good. Even better, this upcoming Saturday...Journey! We have tickets to Journey! Journey is coming to town and we are going to see Journey!

Styx and REO Speedwagon are also on the bill, but the important band is Journey! We splurged and got the expensive tickets, so we have seats in row ten. The tenth row for Journey! In preparation for this happy event, we have been driving around listening to Journey, and getting into fights about the set list. LCG still thinks I am crazy for thinking that Separate Ways should be the encore. His stance has always been that Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' is the best song for the finale and a few months ago I finally ended up agreeing with him. It really is more suitable than Separate Ways, but that doesn't change the fact that I would like to see my favorite song bumped to a more choice position on the set list.

As if Journey isn't exciting enough, I have already received my invitation to Skynyrd Fest. The Mustachioed Drummer felt bad about forgetting to invite me last year, and as a result, I got my invitation before Memorial Day. It is usually early in July, but for some reason this year they are having it on the Fourth of July. "I'm sorry," I said, "but I can't make it." What? July fourth is the day that the SciFi channel has a Twilight Zone marathon, and ever since LCG and I became friends, it has been our tradition to sit in the dark all day, watching SciFi and waiting for episodes with William Shatner. We'll see how that works out.

Last but not least, I am pleased to announce that LCG and I are holding tickets to the Iron Maiden show taking place two towns over. On this tour, Iron Maiden isn't coming to us, so we must go to them. I was against the idea, but LCG kept hassling me. "I've never seen Iron Maiden!" Uh-huh. I've seen them twice. He kept on nagging me and once he was 98% sure I would say yes, he went ahead and bought tickets, so now we are going on a road trip!

And the night before Maiden, the Misfits are playing! And the night after Maiden, on our way home, (so, this would be one town over) there is a WWE Raw. Best road trip ever. I couldn't contain the giddiness and sent an email.

To CEB: As if the Misfits and Iron Maiden aren't enough, on the night after Maiden there is a RAW. Hee! Jerry Only AND Bruce Dickinson AND Chris Jericho in one weekend!!! Hee-hee!

From CEB: It sounds like you guys are planning a "Rocksnobs Roadtrip" for that weekend. I can see the article now, "A drop of sweat from Jerry Only's devilock landed on my forehead, I passed out from the excitement ... Bruce Dickinson was wearing very TIGHT pants, the same ones that I have at home!!...Chris Jericho's hair came out of the ponytail. This was almost as fulfilling as the Misfit sweat."

On the one hand, I should be ticked at CEB for picking on me. On the other hand, I should enjoy the fact that he is reading the site for comprehension. On the extra hand, I need to point out that if I got Jerry Only sweat on me, I would not be pleased. On the bonus hand, I'm not going to have to write about my weekend, because he has summed up what are sure to be the important points of the trip. But whether Jericho's hair leaves the ponytail or not, I can see that like the Beach Boys, I will be having fun all summer long.
