Yesterday CEB sent me the very latest Queen rumor. I can't help but notice that every time a fresh Queen rumor surfaces, it is even more horrible than the last. The newest report is that Queen is going to play some sort of 30th anniversary show and that Justin Hawkins, lead singer of The Darkness, will be singing. Singing for Queen. Being the singer for Queen. I strongly disapprove. I don't think I need to remind you that Justin Hawkins is my nemesis, but I will. Justin Hawkins is my nemesis.
Both Brian May and The Darkness have already issued denials on their respective web sites. I would like to believe them, but I do not. The story said that an official announcement would take place on May 11. I can only assume that they have to deny the story until the contracts are signed. I mean, Brian May does have an established history of lying about the state of affairs within the band, why should I believe him now?
YES I KNOW. He was lying about Freddie to guarantee them all a measure of privacy. I UNDERSTAND. I'm just saying that there are press clippings on The Darkness site that involve Brian May going all slobbery-lovey over The Darkness and their Christmas single. Then there is that part where The Darkness loves Queen. Maybe their little mutual admiration society is going to spawn the worst collaboration ever, maybe not.
I will be watching this story carefully to see what, if anything, happens. Because if this does turn out to be true, I will be going off.
